from Kottayam and 29km from Cochin, Vaikom is famous for
its annual Siva temple festival. Vaikom also famous as
Mahatma Gandhi launched his Sathyagraha against untouchables,
temple entry and casteism. The Ashtami festival of the

KUMARAKAM:
12km west of Kottayam, Kumarakam is a tourist resort with
100acres of Coconut estate and Bungalow called Baker Mansion,
the former estate and residence of a British Missionary
cum planter called Baker. It is now the Taj Resort Ltd,
run by the K.T.D.C. This is also an ideal site for enjoying
the backwaters and boat cruise. Boats are available on

50km from Kottayam on the K.K Road, Mundakayam is the
foot hill town before starting of the mountain terrain.
