Thrissur
The central region of the State. Other interesting sites

district. The largest mosque is situated, Thrissur in

CHALAKKUDY:
55km from Ernakulam, Chalakkudy is the foot hill town
of the multi purpose Hydro Electric and Irrigation Projects
of the Sholayar Projects ranges. The beautiful waterfalls
of Athirappally and Vazhachal 5km apart are in this area.Chalakudi
is an important 'timber centre', and was the base of Tipu
Sulthan during the attack on the' Travancore Lines' ,
known as Krishnakotta or Nedumkotta. It is an important
railway station. |

CHERUTHURUTHI:
32km from Thrissur, Cheruthuruthy is the seat of Kerala
Kalamandalam, the academy founded by Vallathol Narayana
Menon, the poet Laureate. The prestigious institution
imparts training in various traditional art forms like
Kathakali, Mohiniattom, Thullal and folk dances. Special
performance can be arranged on request. |

KUNNAMKULAM:
22km from Thrissur, Kunnamkulam is an ancient Christian
Centre. It is believed that Kunnamkulam is a settlement
Christian, special invited by the Maharajas Cochin for
trade and commerce. The Mathoma Church is 5km from Kunnamkulam. |
GURUVAYUR:
32km from Thrissur and 72km from Cochin is Guruvayur,
one of India's most important pilgrim centre known as
the 'Dwaraka' of the south. Palayur church, one of the
seven Churches established by St.Thomas, the apostle is
at Guruvayur. |
CHAVAKKAD:
The Palayur church believed to be established by St.Thomas
in 52AD is near Chavakkad, an important place of pilgrimage
for Hindus, Muslims and Christians. Coconut is grown in
plenty here and Beady is a big cottage industry.

21kms from Thrissur is a temple of Bharatha, the only
temple in India dedicated to Bharatha, brother of Sri

VADAKANCHERY:
A small commercial town, 20 kms from Thrissur, is the
