Wayanad
District was formed as the 12th district of Kerala in
1980. This is 100km from Kozhikode district, the north
eastern tip of this state. This quaint little hill station
for its coffee, tea, cardamom, pepper and rubber plantations.
The Jains have built beautiful temples in the district.
it is the least populous district in Kerala. Pookot Lake
is situated in Wayanad district. .Lakkidi is known as'
Chirapunjy of Kerala'. It is linked to all major tourist
spots in South India. The states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu
are its neighbors. Other towns are Sulthan's Battery,
Vythiri, Mananthavady, Pulppally and Panamaram etc. |

KALPETTA:
This is located in Wayanad district and 75km from Calicut,
Head quarters of the district, surrounded by thick growth
of Coffee Plantations, Kalpatta was occupied by hardworking
farmers and planters from Central Travancore. Over 5000acres
are covered by Coffee estates around Kalpatta.Jains as
the Anantha Swamy Jain temple is situated at Piliyarmala
near Kalpatta. The Jain temple dedicated to Vardhamana
Mahaveera is one of the few Jain shrines in Kerala. The
town also has the famous Maidani Mosque. |

PULPALLY:
This is located in Wayanad district. There is a cave at
Pulpalli in which the Pazhassi Raja took refuge until
his capture. |
VAYITTIRI:
This is located in Wayanad district and 60km from Calicut,
winding and climbing roads through Wayanad hills.

LAKKADI:
The 'Gateway to Wayanad', is located 5km south of Vayittri.
This is a place of great scenic beauty with picturesque
hills, glittering streams and rich vegetation and one
of the highest locations in Wayanad.The second highest
rainfall in the world in Wayanad.The 12km long journey
from Adivaram to Lakkidi is a fascinating experience.Lakkidi
is known as' Chirapunjy of Kerala'. |

SULTHAN
BATHERY:
This is located in Wayanad district, 96km from Calicut,
passing through thick forest, coffee, rubber and tea estates,
oranges and other cash crops, winding and climbing the
hills, Sulthan Bathery, a small town is only 19km Karnataka
border. Sulthan Bathery is a health resort. The business
in this small town is mostly run by Muslims. Hill station
and historical centre, noted for a fort built by Tipu
Sulthan in the 18th century. |
THIRUNELLI:
It is situated in the banks of Papanasini River, near
Thirunelli Temple. It is renowned for the temple often
called as 'Thekkan kasi'. It is believed that a bath in
the holy water of 'Papanasini' will wipe off all sins.

ISLAND: 950 acres
of lush Island is set on the tributary of east flowing
Kabani river. It is an excellent picnic spot, far away
